M4 Muscarinic Acetylcholine Receptor (None specified)

Target
None specified
Molecular classification
G protein-coupled receptor, GPCR, Receptor
01

Overview

The M4 muscarinic acetylcholine receptor (M4 mAChR), encoded by the CHRM4 gene, is a Gi/o-coupled GPCR that acts as an inhibitory autoreceptor for acetylcholine, particularly in the striatum. It regulates dopaminergic neurotransmission and plays a role in extrapyramidal motor control. M4 mAChR is implicated in various neurological disorders and represents a therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, and other conditions such as myelodysplastic syndrome and anemia.
