Overview

Macrophage activity modulation refers to the regulation of macrophage functions, including their activation, polarization, and effector responses. Macrophages are innate immune cells that play central roles in host defense, tissue homeostasis, inflammation, and repair. Their activities can be modulated by a variety of signals—cytokines, metabolic cues, biophysical factors, and pharmacological agents—to promote either pro-inflammatory (M1) or anti-inflammatory/tissue-repairing (M2) phenotypes. Modulating macrophage activity is a therapeutic strategy for diseases characterized by dysregulated inflammation or impaired healing.
