The term macrophage-associated protein refers to a broad class of proteins expressed by or associated with macrophages, which are key innate immune cells involved in phagocytosis, antigen presentation, and cytokine production. These proteins often serve as markers for macrophage polarization, such as CD163 and CD206 for M2-like (anti-inflammatory/pro-tumor) macrophages and HLA-DR or iNOS for M1-like (pro-inflammatory/anti-tumor) macrophages.
