Fc-gamma receptors (FcγRs) are a family of cell surface receptors that bind to the Fc region of immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibodies. On macrophages, these receptors play a central role in immune defense by mediating the recognition, uptake, and destruction of antibody-coated pathogens and particles. The interaction between IgG-opsonized targets and macrophage FcγRs triggers phagocytosis, antigen presentation, cytokine release, and other effector functions critical for both innate and adaptive immunity.
