While critical for defense and immune surveillance, their dysregulation can contribute to disease including cancer progression and chronic inflammation[1][4][6]. However, "macrophages within lymphatic tissue" is an imprecise and overly broad descriptor—it refers to a functional cell population (not a discrete molecular target or receptor), thus is not suitable as a canonical therapeutic target. Interventions typically focus on macrophage subsets, their surface markers, or signaling pathways rather than on the entire, diverse cell population itself[1][4][6].
