MAD2L1 divergent transcript (MAD2L1-DT) is a long non-coding RNA gene that is transcribed from the region adjacent to the MAD2L1 gene. While the functional protein-coding MAD2L1 gene is involved in the spindle assembly checkpoint and cell cycle control, MAD2L1-DT itself does not encode a protein. The precise biological function of MAD2L1-DT remains incompletely characterized, but, as with other lncRNAs, it may be involved in the regulation of gene expression at the transcriptional or post-transcriptional level. Initial research has investigated its expression in cancer contexts, particularly due to the proximity to cancer-related protein-coding genes, but direct biological and disease associations of MAD2L1-DT are still under investigation[2][3].
