Overview

Maestro heat-like repeat-containing protein family member 9 (MROH9) is a protein encoded by the MROH9 gene in humans, located on chromosome 1q24.3[1][3][7]. It contains modular HEAT repeats and is structurally related to proteins with armadillo repeats (ARM domains), which form superhelical structures and often mediate protein-protein interactions in intracellular transport[1][5]. There are multiple protein isoforms due to alternate splicing, with the longest canonical isoform at 861 amino acids and containing five HEAT regions[1][3]. MROH9 shows low but detectable expression in human lung tissue, intestines, stomach, and gonads (testicular and ovarian)[1][5]. Its cytoplasmic localization is predicted, but some data indicate a role in the nucleus and possible mitochondrial or Golgi apparatus involvement[1][5]. Expression may be sexually dimorphic, with increased transcripts in male reproductive organs and specific regulation in testicular germ cells[1][5]. Currently, its precise molecular function and disease associations are unknown. While structural features suggest a possible role in intracellular transport or gene regulation, no direct biological activity, disease connection, or drug targeting has been established[1][5][7].
