MAGI2 antisense RNA 2 (MAGI2-AS2) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the MAGI2 protein-coding gene on chromosome 7. It functions as a regulatory molecule in post-transcriptional gene expression, modulating cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and oxidative stress by interacting with microRNAs and proteins such as HSPA8. Downregulation of MAGI2-AS2 has been linked to increased tumorigenicity in non-small cell lung cancer and other malignancies, suggesting a tumor-suppressor role. Its mechanisms include miRNA sponging (notably miR-629-5p and miR-31-5p) and protein interactions that affect cell redox status[1][2][4][7]. As a non-protein coding RNA, MAGI2-AS2 is also exemplified as a research focus for therapeutic intervention and biomarker development in oncology.
