Overview

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal enhancement refers to the use of specific agents—commonly called MRI contrast agents—to increase the visibility and differentiation of tissues, organs, or pathological features during MRI scans. These agents work by altering the magnetic properties of nearby water protons, thereby enhancing image contrast and improving diagnostic accuracy.
