Magnetic Resonance Imaging Signal Enhancement via Nuclear Spin Polarization (Hyperpolarization)

Overview

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal enhancement via nuclear spin polarization, commonly referred to as hyperpolarization, is a set of techniques designed to dramatically increase the sensitivity of MRI and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) by increasing the population difference between nuclear spin states far beyond what is achievable at thermal equilibrium. This results in much stronger MR signals from target nuclei, enabling detection and imaging of low-concentration molecules or rapid metabolic processes that would otherwise be invisible with conventional MRI/NMR methods.
