Major Basic Protein 1 (eMBP1)

Target
eMBP1
Molecular classification
Protein, Cytotoxin, C-type lectin-like domain containing protein
01

Overview

Major basic protein 1 (MBP1), also known as eosinophil granule major basic protein 1, is a highly cationic protein predominantly found in the crystalline core of eosinophil granules. It plays a central role in host defense against parasitic infections and contributes to immune hypersensitivity reactions. MBP1 acts as a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin, damaging epithelial cells and inducing inflammation. It is implicated in allergic diseases like asthma and is found at high levels in placenta/pregnancy serum.
