Major histocompatibility complex, class II, DQ beta 1 chain (HLA-DQB1) is the beta-chain of the HLA-DQ heterodimer, a cell surface receptor essential for the function of antigen-presenting cells such as B lymphocytes, dendritic cells, and macrophages[1][2][3][4]. This gene is highly polymorphic, with its encoded product exhibiting variability that determines peptide-binding specificity, influencing susceptibility to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases[4][5]. Specific HLA-DQB1 alleles are strongly associated with diseases such as celiac disease, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and narcolepsy[2][3][4][5]. HLA-DQB1 typing is standard in transplantation to minimize graft-versus-host and rejection risks[1][2]. No drugs act directly on HLA-DQB1, but its variants are key biomarkers in disease susceptibility and transplant compatibility[2][4].
