The major histocompatibility complex class II DQ alpha 2 (HLA-DQA2) is a protein that plays a central role in immune function. It forms a heterodimer with an MHC class II beta chain and is involved in peptide loading and antigen presentation to CD4+ T-cells. While it participates in MHC class II function, it exhibits lower expression than its paralog HLA-DQA1 due to impaired promoter activity. Genetic variations near HLA-DQA2 are associated with Crohn's disease, narcolepsy, and certain cancers. Heightened expression may correlate with reduced susceptibility to COVID-19 infection.
