Makorin ring finger protein 9, pseudogene (MKRN9P), also known as Putative makorin-5, is a non-coding pseudogene on the human genome that belongs to the makorin RING finger protein family. Unlike other makorin family members (MKRN1, MKRN2, MKRN3, MKRN4), which serve as E3 ubiquitin ligases involved in protein degradation and regulation of multiple cellular processes and diseases, MKRN9P does not encode a functional protein and does not have demonstrated biological activity. It is sometimes encountered in gene databases due to sequence similarity and historical annotation, but it should not be considered an active therapeutic target or functional molecule.
