Overview

mTOR (mammalian target of rapamycin) is a serine/threonine kinase that acts as a central regulator integrating signals from nutrients, growth factors, energy status, and stress to control fundamental cellular processes including cell growth, proliferation, protein synthesis, lipid synthesis, organelle biogenesis, and autophagy. It forms two distinct multi-protein complexes, mTORC1 and mTORC2, each with different functions and sensitivities to inhibitors. Dysregulation of the mTOR pathway is implicated in various diseases, including cancer, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases, making it an important therapeutic target.
