Target
MASP
Molecular classification

Overview

Mannan-binding lectin serine proteases (MASPs) are a family of enzymes crucial to the activation of the lectin pathway in the complement system. The main members include MASP-1, MASP-2, and MASP-3. These enzymes associate with pattern recognition molecules such as mannose-binding lectin (MBL) and ficolins to recognize pathogen-associated carbohydrate patterns and initiate immune responses. They play a central role in innate immunity and can contribute to both pathogen clearance and inflammatory diseases.
