Mannan endo-1,4-beta-mannosidase is an enzyme that catalyzes the random (endo-type) hydrolysis of (1→4)-beta-D-mannosidic linkages in the backbone of plant-derived polysaccharides such as mannans, galactomannans, and glucomannans. It is classified under EC 3.2.1.78 and is a key member of the glycoside hydrolase family involved in the degradation of hemicellulosic components in plant cell walls. The enzyme is widely distributed in bacteria, fungi, and plants, and has significant roles in biotechnology, particularly for applications in biomass conversion, food and feed processing, paper and pulp industries, and the production of biofuels. Mannan endo-1,4-beta-mannosidase is not recognized as a human therapeutic target, but is of commercial and industrial importance due to its ability to break down complex carbohydrates into fermentable sugars.
