Target intelligence / Profile preview
Mannitol is an osmotic diuretic used to reduce cellular edema, particularly in the brain. It increases plasma osmolality, creating an osmotic gradient that draws water from intracellular and interstitial spaces into the vascular compartment, leading to diuresis and decreased intracranial pressure. It is used in the management of cerebral edema due to trauma or stroke, and for the reduction of elevated intracranial pressure.
Osmotically draws water from cells/tissues into vasculature, promoting diuresis and reducing intracranial pressure.
