The Mannose-6-Phosphate Receptor (M6PR) is a transmembrane protein responsible for transporting lysosomal enzymes from the Golgi apparatus to lysosomes. It recognizes and binds to mannose 6-phosphate (M6P) tags on newly synthesized acid hydrolases. There are two main types: cation-dependent (CD-MPR) and cation-independent (CI-MPR). The CI-MPR also binds insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) and modulates extracellular glycoproteins.
