Mannose-binding lectin-associated serine proteases (MASPs) are a family of serine proteases that play a central role in the activation of the lectin pathway of the complement system, an essential component of innate immunity. MASPs form complexes with pattern recognition molecules such as mannose-binding lectin (MBL), ficolins, and collectins in serum. There are three main types: MASP-1, MASP-2, and MASP-3. They are implicated in immune defense and inflammatory disease pathogenesis.
