Target intelligence / Profile preview
The lectin pathway is a critical component of the innate immune system, initiating complement activation through the recognition of carbohydrate patterns on pathogens or altered self-cells by pattern recognition molecules like MBL, ficolins, and collectins. This leads to the activation of MASPs, cleavage of C4 and C2, and formation of the C3 convertase, ultimately resulting in opsonization, cell lysis, and inflammation. Dysregulation of the lectin pathway is implicated in various diseases, including infections, autoimmune conditions, and thrombotic events.
