Overview

MAP3K14 antisense RNA 1 is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed from the antisense strand of the MAP3K14 locus. It does not encode a protein and functions most likely by regulating the expression of the MAP3K14 gene or neighboring genes. Reported methylation changes of MAP3K14-AS1 have been observed in the hippocampus of epilepsy patients, suggesting a role in the regulation of neuroinflammatory and epileptic processes. While MAP3K14-AS1 itself is not a classical therapeutic target like a receptor or enzyme, emerging research proposes lncRNAs—including antisense RNAs like MAP3K14-AS1—as potential drug targets or biomarkers in diseases such as epilepsy and cancer through epigenetic and post-transcriptional mechanisms.
