Overview

MAP3K20 antisense RNA 1 (MAP3K20-AS1, also known as MLK7-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) classified as an antisense transcript relative to the MAP3K20 (MLK4) gene region[2][4][7][8]. MAP3K20-AS1 is not a protein-coding molecule but exerts regulatory effects on gene expression primarily by interacting with microRNAs such as miR-375 and proteins involved in chromatin modification, including DNA methyltransferases[2][3]. It is overexpressed in certain cancers, including ovarian and gastric cancer, where it promotes cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition, partly via modulation of the miR-375/YAP1 axis[1][3]. High levels of MAP3K20-AS1 are associated with poorer prognosis in gastric cancer, and experimental knockdown results in reduced tumorigenicity and increased apoptosis[3]. It is considered a potential biomarker for prognosis assessment, but there are currently no approved drugs or direct therapeutic agents targeting MAP3K20-AS1. As a regulatory lncRNA, it does not belong to classical therapeutic target categories such as receptors, enzymes, ion channels, or transporters[1][3][4][8].
