MAP4K1 antisense RNA 1 (MAP4K1-AS1)

Target
MAP4K1-AS1
Molecular classification
Long noncoding RNA, Antisense RNA, Natural antisense transcript

Overview

MAP4K1 antisense RNA 1 (MAP4K1-AS1) is a long noncoding natural antisense transcript located at the MAP4K1 genomic locus and transcribed from the DNA strand opposite to the protein-coding MAP4K1 gene. Antisense RNAs, including MAP4K1-AS1, regulate gene expression by mechanisms such as transcriptional interference, chromatin remodeling, and modulating transcription factor recruitment. While many antisense RNAs are increasingly recognized for their roles in epigenetic regulation and disease, there is currently little published data assigning a definitive functional role or disease link to MAP4K1-AS1 specifically. It is not categorized as a direct therapeutic target (such as a receptor, enzyme, or ion channel), but may emerge as a regulatory RNA relevant to future research in gene regulation and noncoding RNA biology.
