Overview

MAPK regulated corepressor interacting protein 2 (MCRIP2) is a cytoplasmic and nuclear protein characterized by RNA binding activity and LIM domains. It is implicated in transcriptional regulation and skeletal muscle differentiation, notably influencing gene promoters tied to muscle development (e.g., MyoD1) and copper homeostasis. MCRIP2 is regulated by copper levels and is required for normal muscle cell differentiation, but has not been established as a therapeutic target, receptor, or enzyme. While it plays important roles in muscle development and metal metabolism, there are currently no drugs or biomarker roles associated with MCRIP2, and it is not linked to specific human diseases.
