Overview

"MARK2 pseudogene 3" (MARK2P3) is a genomic DNA sequence sharing significant homology with the protein-coding MARK2 gene but lacks the capacity to encode a functional protein due to mutations or incomplete structure[3][5]. Pseudogenes such as MARK2P3 typically arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events. While most pseudogenes were traditionally regarded as nonfunctional, some have been shown to exert regulatory effects at the RNA level—acting as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) or antisense regulators in specific biological contexts[4]. However, there is no literature or database evidence indicating that MARK2P3 has any unique or established function, druggability, or role as a biomarker or therapeutic target. It should not be confused with the functional gene MARK2, a serine/threonine kinase involved in cell polarity and microtubule dynamics[1]. In summary, MARK2P3 is a pseudogene and not a validated molecular target of interest for drug discovery, therapeutic intervention, or biomarker development as of current knowledge.
