Target intelligence / Profile preview
MARVEL domain-containing protein 1 (MARVELD1) is an integral membrane protein characterized by the presence of a MARVEL domain, which is a four transmembrane-helix module also found in proteins involved in membrane apposition and vesicle trafficking[5][7]. MARVELD1 plays roles in regulating cell proliferation and migration, as well as neuronal migration during brain development, where its deficiency can lead to disrupted cortical and cerebellar architecture, resulting in impaired motor and cognitive functions[2][4][7][8]. In cancer, MARVELD1 is proposed to function as a tumor suppressor by negatively regulating cell proliferation and tumor growth[8]. The protein localizes to the cell nucleus and is dynamically expressed during brain embryogenesis, particularly in neural and glial cells[2]. There are currently no well-established drugs targeting MARVELD1 and it is not considered a classical therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or transcription factor[7][8].
