MAS1L pseudogene 1 (MAS1LP1) is classified as a pseudogene—a genomic sequence similar to the protein-coding MAS1 proto-oncogene-like gene but lacking the ability to produce a functional protein due to disabling mutations. Pseudogenes like MAS1LP1 may be transcribed into RNA and potentially regulate gene expression at the post-transcriptional level, for example by producing antisense RNAs or small interfering RNAs that modulate the activity of related genes. MAS1LP1 itself does not encode a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, and there is currently no direct evidence for its involvement in therapeutic modulation or drug interaction. However, pseudogenes, in general, can influence disease biology and may act as a biomarkers or regulators in conditions such as cancer. MAS1 oncogene and MAS1 proto-oncogene-like are the protein-coding relatives, but MAS1LP1 is not itself a protein-coding therapeutic target and should not be confused with its parental gene MAS1L.
