Overview

MATR3 pseudogene 1 (MATR3P1) is annotated as a pseudogene and does not encode a functional protein. Pseudogenes are segments of DNA that resemble genes but are typically non-functional relics, often arising from duplication or retrotransposition events[3]. As such, MATR3P1 is not considered a therapeutic target and does not have known biological or disease roles, interact with drugs, or serve as a biomarker. If your interest is in the functional, protein-coding MATR3 gene ("matrin-3"), this is a nuclear matrix protein involved in RNA and DNA binding, gene expression regulation, nuclear structure maintenance, RNA splicing, and is implicated in neuromuscular diseases (e.g., amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, distal myopathy) and certain cancers[1][3][4]. However, these functions are not applicable to the MATR3P1 pseudogene.
