Molecular classification
Enzyme, Serine Protease, Type II transmembrane protein

Overview

Matriptase, also known as ST14, is a type II transmembrane serine protease that plays essential roles in physiological processes and disease. It is widely expressed in most human epithelial tissues and functions as an epithelial membrane activator for other proteases and growth factors. Key roles include skin barrier formation, epidermal differentiation, and regulation of intestinal epithelial barrier integrity. Dysregulation of matriptase has been implicated in cancer, genetic disorders, and inflammatory diseases, making it a potential target for anti-cancer therapy.
