Matrix metallopeptidase 10 (MMP-10), also known as stromelysin-2, is a secreted zinc-dependent endopeptidase belonging to the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family[1][2][3][7]. It is involved in the degradation of various components of the extracellular matrix, including fibronectin, gelatins, proteoglycans, and several types of collagen[1][2][3]. MMP-10 is critical for normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, tissue remodeling, and wound healing, but is also upregulated in pathological states such as cancer, inflammatory disease, and cardiovascular disease, where it promotes tumor invasion and metastasis, inflammation, and calcification, respectively[4][5]. MMP-10 is a validated therapeutic target for anti-metastatic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fibrotic drug development, but selective inhibitors remain principally in research or clinical investigation rather than approved clinical practice[5].
Inhibition of extracellular matrix degradation (by MMP inhibitors or monoclonal antibodies) and blocking enzyme activity to reduce inflammation, fibrosis, or tumor invasion.
