Target intelligence / Profile preview
Matrix metallopeptidase 8 pseudogene (ENSG00000276521) is a genomic sequence closely related to the functional matrix metallopeptidase 8 (MMP8) gene but does not encode an active, functional protein product. Pseudogenes are considered "genomic fossils" and, unlike the protein-coding MMP8 gene (which encodes neutrophil collagenase, an enzyme involved in extracellular matrix remodeling and implicated in various physiological and pathological processes), this pseudogene does not have any established biological function or therapeutic relevance. It is not used as a therapeutic target and is largely of genetic or evolutionary interest.
