Mature T cells are a subset of lymphocytes that have completed their development in the thymus and play a central role in adaptive immunity. They express unique antigen-specific T cell receptors (TCRs) and can differentiate into various functional subsets, including CD4+ helper T cells and CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes. These cells are critical for recognizing and eliminating pathogens, regulating immune responses, and maintaining immune tolerance. Malignant transformation of mature T cells can lead to aggressive cancers known as mature T-cell lymphomas.
