Overview

Maturin, neural progenitor differentiation regulator homolog (MTURN), is a protein-coding gene located on chromosome 7. MTURN is implicated in promoting megakaryocyte differentiation, mainly through enhancement of ERK and JNK signaling pathways and upregulation of RUNX1 and FLI1 expression. It also represses NF-kappaB transcriptional activity by inhibiting phosphorylation of RELA at Ser-536, which is linked to inflammation regulation. MTURN may play a role in early neuronal development. High expression of MTURN has been associated with lung cancer. The protein is cytoplasmic and relates to various disease processes but is not currently considered a canonical drug target, and there are no reported interacting drugs or direct mechanisms of action for therapeutic intervention[1][4][5][7].
