MAU2 sister chromatid cohesion factor is a protein essential for loading the cohesin complex onto DNA during both mitosis and meiosis. It acts as a key component of the cohesin loader complex, forming a heterodimer with NIPBL/SCC2 to deposit cohesin on chromatin, a process crucial for sister chromatid cohesion, proper chromosome segregation, and DNA repair. Disruption of the MAU2–NIPBL interaction impairs cohesin loading, which is linked to the developmental disorder Cornelia de Lange syndrome. MAU2 is located in the nucleus and operates together with other proteins to maintain genome stability and regulate cell cycle progression[1][2][3][4][5].
