The **maxillary nerve** is the second division (V2) of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), one of the major sensory nerves of the face. It is exclusively sensory, transmitting sensations such as touch, pain, and temperature from the midface region, including the lower eyelid, cheek, side of nose, upper lip, upper teeth, maxillary sinus, nasopharynx, nasal cavity, palate, and dura mater of the middle cranial fossa[1][2][3]. It originates from the trigeminal ganglion, travels through the foramen rotundum, and gives rise to several branches (zygomatic, infraorbital, alveolar, palatine, and nasal nerves) before terminating in smaller branches on the face[1][2][3]. While not a molecular drug target, the maxillary nerve is clinically important as the anatomical focus for regional anesthesia in dental and facial procedures[5].
