MBP antisense RNA 2 refers to a natural antisense transcript arising from the myelin basic protein (MBP) gene locus, characterized in certain mutant mouse models such as myelin-deficient (mld) mice. In these mice, a gene duplication and inversion event leads to robust expression of an antisense RNA overlapping the MBP gene. This antisense RNA is nuclear-localized and forms RNA:RNA duplexes with the sense MBP mRNA, likely resulting in either retention of the message in the nucleus or selective degradation, thereby suppressing production of MBP protein[1][4][5]. The biological significance of this antisense transcript appears to be post-transcriptional regulation of MBP expression through the formation of double-stranded RNA and effects on mRNA processing, but it is not a traditional drug target or receptor.\n\n*This target name does not conform to standard nomenclature, is not a canonical therapeutic target, and is not established in major pharmacological or protein classification systems. For these reasons, its use as a structured drug discovery target is incorrect or at minimum highly unconventional.*
