Target intelligence / Profile preview
MCM3AP antisense RNA 1 (MCM3AP-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) located on chromosome 21 (46,228,977-46,259,390), with subcellular localization primarily in the chromatin and nucleoplasm. MCM3AP-AS1 has no protein-coding ability but regulates numerous cellular processes by acting as a molecular sponge for various microRNAs and by interacting with proteins, thus modulating gene expression and chromatin structure. Aberrant expression of MCM3AP-AS1 is significantly correlated with tumorigenesis, clinical stage, tumor size, and pathological grade in multiple cancers. Depending on context, MCM3AP-AS1 can function as either an oncogene or a tumor suppressor, affecting cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, cell cycle progression, and invasiveness. It is a strong candidate biomarker for cancer diagnosis and prognosis and presents a potential target for future RNA-based therapies.
Not applicable as no drugs directly targeting MCM3AP-AS1 are in clinical use. In experimental settings, targeting MCM3AP-AS1 (e.g., with siRNA or antisense oligonucleotides) can modulate the activity of microRNA pathways (miR-93, miR-708-5p, miR-28-5p, miR-193a-5p, etc.) and affect cell proliferation, apoptosis, and metastatic behavior.
