MCM8 antisense RNA 1 (MCM8-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the antisense strand of the MCM8 gene locus. While its precise biological roles remain to be clarified, antisense lncRNAs can regulate the expression of their sense counterpart genes by influencing transcription, mRNA stability, or translation. There is currently no robust evidence that MCM8-AS1 itself is a direct therapeutic target, and no drugs are known to act on this lncRNA. MCM8-AS1 may be dysregulated in certain malignancies, mirroring the established importance of the MCM8 gene in DNA replication and repair, but specific disease associations or clinical applications have not been reported.
