MDH1 pseudogene 2 (MDH1P2) is a presumed non-functional, non-coding genomic sequence that shares homology with the malate dehydrogenase 1 (MDH1) gene. Unlike the functional MDH1 gene—which codes for the cytosolic enzyme malate dehydrogenase, a key player in the citric acid cycle and associated metabolic pathways—MDH1P2 does not produce a protein or have any known function or involvement in human disease. Pseudogenes like MDH1P2 are typically the result of gene duplication or retrotransposition events and generally do not contribute to cellular biochemistry or serve as therapeutic targets.
