Overview

The "measles, mumps, and rubella viral envelope glycoproteins" are the surface proteins found on the envelopes of the three corresponding viruses. These glycoproteins include the hemagglutinin (H) and fusion (F) proteins for measles virus, the hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) and fusion (F) proteins for mumps virus, and the envelope glycoproteins E1 and E2 for rubella virus. They mediate viral attachment to host cell receptors and fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane, initiating infection. The envelope glycoproteins are the primary immunogens in the live attenuated MMR vaccine, which induces neutralizing antibodies against these proteins and prevents infection.
