The measles virus hemagglutinin protein (MV-H) is a type I integral membrane glycoprotein on the measles virus surface. It mediates viral attachment to host cells by binding to receptors like SLAM/CD150, Nectin-4/PVRL4, and CD46. Receptor binding triggers conformational changes in MV-H, activating the fusion (F) protein to initiate membrane fusion and viral entry. MV-H is a major target for neutralizing antibodies and plays a critical role in determining tissue tropism and host range.
Currently, no drugs directly target MV-H. Therapeutic strategies focus on preventing infection via vaccination which elicits neutralizing antibodies against MV-H.
