Mechanical barrier formation at a bleeding site refers to the physiological and/or artificial creation of a physical plug—mainly by the aggregation of platelets and deposition of fibrin—at the location of vascular injury, halting further blood loss. This process involves the rapid recruitment and activation of platelets (primary hemostasis) and the subsequent formation of an insoluble fibrin mesh (secondary hemostasis), together constituting a stable blood clot[1][4][7]. Various hemostatic agents and dressings can also achieve this effect by absorbing blood, promoting coagulation, or physically plugging the wound.
