This condition disrupts oxygen and nutrient supply, causing ischemia that can progress to tissue necrosis, skin death, or severe outcomes like gangrene and amputation if untreated.[1][2] It manifests through the classic 6 Ps of ischemia: pallor, pain, paresthesia, paralysis, pulselessness, and poikilothermia, with arterial occlusions presenting acutely with pain and blanching, while venous types may show delayed discoloration.[1][2] Common etiologies include embolism (e.g., blood clots, foreign bodies), thrombosis, and atherosclerosis, underlying diseases like coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, and pulmonary embolism.[2][5] Though not a specific molecular entity like a receptor or enzyme, it is addressed therapeutically via embolectomy, thrombolytics, or anticoagulants rather than direct pharmacological targeting of a protein.[2] In contexts like cosmetic injections, hyaluronic acid fillers can cause intravascular embolism or extravascular compression, highlighting procedural risks over inherent target modulation.[1]
