Overview

Mediator complex subunit 15 pseudogene 1 (MED15P1) is a pseudogene derived from the gene encoding the mediator complex subunit 15, but contains mutations or sequence features preventing production of a functional protein[2][3]. Pseudogenes like MED15P1 are nonfunctional sequences that resemble protein-coding genes; by definition, they do not encode active proteins due to disabling mutations (such as frameshifts or premature stop codons)[3]. Although some pseudogenes can have regulatory roles—such as acting as decoys for microRNAs or influencing the expression of their parent gene—there is no evidence that MED15P1 has a defined functional or regulatory role, nor is it recognized as a therapeutic target[1][3]. On standard genomic databases, its aliases include MED15P and PCQAPP, but functional annotations are lacking[2]. MED15P1 is not a functional therapeutic target; rather, it is a non-coding pseudogene with no evidence for a direct role in disease or as a drug target. Its inclusion as a receptor or enzyme would be incorrect.

Biological functions

Other (No known direct biological function—pseudogenes may participate in gene regulation, for instance as microRNA decoys or through competitive interactions with regulatory elements of their parent gene, but there is no evidence for specific function of MED15P1 in these roles)
03

Disease associations

Other (Pseudogenes sometimes play a role in disease via regulation of gene expression, but there is no disease association specific to MED15P1)
