Overview

Mediator complex subunit 15 pseudogene 4 (MED15P4) is a human pseudogene related by sequence to the MED15 gene, which encodes a subunit of the Mediator complex involved in RNA polymerase II transcription. Unlike the canonical MED15, MED15P4 does not code for a functional protein. Pseudogenes are generally regarded as nonfunctional remnants of genes, though some may have subtle regulatory roles in gene expression via noncoding RNAs. MED15P4 is not considered a therapeutic or biological target. There are no reported drugs, biomarkers, or disease associations directly linked to this pseudogene. The gene is located on chromosome 2.

02

Mechanism of action

Not applicable for pseudogenes, as they do not encode proteins or established drug targets.

03

Biological functions

Pseudogenes typically do not code for proteins, but may be transcribed and participate in regulatory functions, such as acting as microRNA decoys or regulating parental gene expression through RNA-based mechanisms.
04

Disease associations

Other. Most pseudogenes, including MED15P4, are not directly implicated in disease, though pseudogene RNA transcripts can—very rarely and in specific cases—modulate disease-related genes by various RNA interference mechanisms.
