MED15P6 (Mediator complex subunit 15 pseudogene 6) is a pseudogene related to the human MED15 gene, which encodes a subunit of the mediator complex involved in transcriptional regulation via RNA polymerase II[1][3]. Pseudogenes, such as MED15P6, are DNA sequences that resemble functional genes but have lost the ability to code for a functional protein due to disabling mutations, such as frameshifts or premature stop codons[4]. There are no known functional protein products, disease associations, or therapeutic roles for MED15P6 itself. While some pseudogenes can have noncoding regulatory functions (e.g., acting as microRNA decoys), this has not been specifically demonstrated for MED15P6[2][4]. Additionally, pseudogenes can complicate molecular genetic studies due to sequence similarity to parent genes, which may confound PCR or genomic analyses[4].
