Overview

Mediator complex subunit 28 pseudogene 7 (MED28P7) is a human processed pseudogene related to the MED28 gene, which itself encodes a component of the Mediator complex, a multi-protein complex involved in transcriptional regulation by RNA polymerase II[1][5][7]. MED28P7 is not known to encode a protein nor to serve any canonical enzymatic, receptor, or transporter role. However, recent research in related ribosomal protein pseudogenes suggests some pseudogenes may regulate the expression of their parental genes at the RNA level, possibly by acting as competing endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) that “sponge” microRNAs and alter the survival or prognosis of cancer patients when overexpressed[2].
