MEIS1 antisense RNA 3 (MEIS1-AS3) is a long non-coding RNA transcribed from the MEIS1 gene region. Its functional characterization remains limited. Like other antisense lncRNAs, MEIS1-AS3 is presumed to regulate the expression of its sense gene partner (MEIS1), which encodes a Homeobox transcription factor critical in hematopoiesis, cell cycle progression, development, and several malignancies[1][3]. There is no established role for MEIS1-AS3 as a direct therapeutic target, nor is it currently considered a biomarker or drug target. MEIS1-AS3 appears in gene databases such as BioGPS as a bona fide, non-coding RNA gene (NCBI Gene ID 730198)[3]. The biological and therapeutic relevance of MEIS1 arises mainly via its role as a transcription factor, which is influenced by complex regulatory mechanisms including lncRNAs and microRNAs. Some studies discuss lncRNAs and ncRNAs in regulating MEIS1, but MEIS1-AS3 specifically has not yet emerged as a major actor or target in disease or therapy[1][2]. No drugs or direct molecular interventions currently target MEIS1-AS3.
