Target intelligence / Profile preview
The melanocortin 3 receptor (MC3R) is a G-protein coupled receptor primarily expressed in the central nervous system, especially the hypothalamus. It plays a critical role in regulating energy balance, influencing appetite/hunger mechanisms, nutrient partitioning, growth, and puberty. Variants in MC3R are associated with obesity, delayed puberty, and disrupted circadian rhythms. It also has a role in anti-inflammatory processes.
Agonists activate Gs protein, leading to increased adenylate cyclase activity and cAMP production.
